Emu oil is a by-product
derived from the adipose tissue (fat tissue) of the emu bird while processing,
a flightless bird that is native to Australia – looks similar to an ostrich. Emu
oil has been fallaciously encouraged as a dietary supplement with several false
claims that it can treat many human illnesses such as arthritis and cancer. However,
very little is known regarding its benefits and risks. Numerous decades ago the
Australian natives were the first people on earth to use emu fat and oil to
treat skin infections. Ever since then, emu oil has gradually become widely
popular and many healthcare experts suggest the application of emu oil for
treating burns and other skin conditions. Emu oil is an abundant source of
anti-inflammatory properties and when used orally or topically, it is known to
assist in treating health issues which includes migraines, muscle pain and many
other skin related issues. Nowadays, emu oil is used to manufacture medicines.
At the time of processing the emu for its healthy red meat, the fat is
extracted and refined into oil which is an all natural substance. Also, after
processing, the fat is channeled with the help of a series of steps to refine,
sterilize and deodorize the final product. The unadulterated version of emu oil
can differ broadly in viscosity as well as color (it ranges from off-white
creamy texture to a thin yellow liquid), and the outcome is based on the diet
of the emu and the refining procedure used. Emu oil market study states a fact that this oil comprises of
nearly 70 percent unsaturated fatty acids, and the largest component of this
oil is oleic acid which is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid.
Advantages of using Emu Oil:
Reduces cholesterol levels
Emu oil consists of healthy
fatty acids which might have cholesterol-lowering effects on the body. In spite
of this being proven, it is known that essential fatty acids do have
cholesterol lowering potential.
Combats infections and
promotes immune system
Antioxidants, essential
fatty acids, and vitamins present in the emu oil assist in the treatment of
infections. Furthermore, the oil has bacteriostatic properties, which render
the potential to stop the bacteria from growing. Since emu oil lessens
inflammation and irritation, it can be used to alleviate flu and cough symptoms
in a natural way. Moreover, along with essential fatty acid, it has vitamins A
which are accountable for many immune system functions.
Enhances quality of the skin
It has great anti-aging
effects owing to its moisturizing properties. Regular use of emu oil has been
found to thicken dry aging skin up to two to three times. Also, wrinkles and
age spots reduced visibly. The oil also benefits individuals having stretch
marks and scars. Because of the anti-inflammatory properties, swelling in skin
conditions such as eczema and psoriasis is reduced. The oil also stimulates
skin cell regeneration and thereby helping people suffering from bed sores.
Promotes healthy hair and
nails
The vitamin E present in the
emu oil annuls the surrounding damage to the hair and acts as a fortifying
agent that boosts blood circulation to the scalp. It helps manage spilt ends
and aids in restoring a healthy shine to the hair. Also, in some rare cases,
there have been proven reports that applying emu oil helps in stimulating the
dormant hair follicles and assist in re-growth. The moisturizing effect is
great for cuticles and lessens inflammation which might have been a result of
conditions like toenail fungus.
